Attorney Daren J. Layton to Lead Program on Fundamental Income Tax Issues Every Advisor Should Know for the Southern Arizona Estate Planning Council

Tucson, Ariz. (April 8, 2025) – Daren J. Layton, a partner with Jennings Haug Keleher McLeod Waterfall’s Tucson office, will be leading a seminar for the Southern Arizona Estate Planning Council (SAEPC) on Fundamental Income Tax Issues Every Advisor Should Know.

The program will discuss how, in today’s high exemption environment, planning for unlikely transfer taxes (estate, gift, and generation-skipping) is often overshadowed by planning for minimization of the highly probable income tax that will be incurred by many clients and their beneficiaries. To be an effective advisor, you must have a firm understanding of the options and implications of income tax planning for estates and trusts. This presentation will identify various income tax issues every advisor should know and discuss strategies for mitigating income taxes for clients and their beneficiaries. Specific topics will include:

  • Maximizing Basis “step-up” at Death
  • Minimizing Basis “step-down” at Death
  • Minimizing Income Taxation of Irrevocable Trusts
  • Asset Swapping with Grantor Trusts
  • Minimizing Valuation Discounts

Date: Wednesday, April 16, 2025

Time: 5:00pm – 7:00pm, including a reception, followed by dinner and the program.
